Possible to Overwrite Sketcher-Level Relations with Part-Level Relations?

Possible to Overwrite Sketcher-Level Relations with Part-Level Relations?

Possible to Overwrite Sketcher-Level Relations with Part-Level Relations?

(OP)
Hi.

I was curious if it is possible to overwrite Sketcher-level relations with Part-level relations? After all, every Sketcher level dimension (sd#) has its part-level counterpart (d#). At any rate, I tried it and the feature info says that at the part level, the d# dimensions HAVE changed, when down in the Sketcher list of dimensions, the sd$'s did NOT change. So when I regen, the part is still the same as it was originally, even though the part-level dimensions say differently.

The reason I am asking, is that I have parts that I would like to modify quickly w/o having to go into each Sketcher level relation individually. If I could just tell Creo to accept my d#'s as replacements, and to go into each Sketcher relation at regen time and replace the corresponding sd#'s with the new values, that would be uber great.

RE: Possible to Overwrite Sketcher-Level Relations with Part-Level Relations?

If you are referring to Sketcher relations then: Short answer - no. Delete the sketcher relation if you want to drive a dimension with a part relation.

You should be able to change any dimension that is not driven by a relation. There should be a warning given when you try to change a dimension that is driven by a relation and the software should not make the change. I haven't thought to try to drive one value with two different relations, so I am not sure what error message is produced, though if you are using the commercial version, you should be able to look at the message log to see if one is issued.

Thanks for your reply, 3DDave. I thought that would be the case. I was hoping to use existing files without going in and deleting all those sketcher relations and replacing them with one big part-level relation. I was hoping to be able to keep the sketcher relations because it makes the file easier to fix when the values change and a regen failure occurs. So it would have been nice to keep the sketcher relations, but have the ability to rewrite them via a part-level relation.

Maybe in a future version of Creo. :)
