3-Pile Group & Cap
3-Pile Group & Cap
(OP)
I have a pile cap that will be supporting 2 different columns with 2 different reactions. Is there a code that specifies the edge distance from a column to the face of the cap? One column reaction is actually quite a bit larger than the other. I'm assuming taking the resultant and centering it on the group is the correct route to go? Would you agree with that statement?

RE: 3-Pile Group & Cap
Taking the resultant and centering it on the group is not a correct approach.
The best approach is to use a strut and tie method representing both columns and support piles.
To prevent bursting of the side cover due to load transfer at the top of the pile there are recommendations limiting edge distance of pile, but edge distance to the column will most likely be controlled by strut inclination.
