Need help here.

this subject is treated vaguely covered in ASHAE manuals. I need some concrete solutions to counter this phenomenon. I can calculate the pressure diff. But what to do to counter it is not clear. Did some research on google but not much info. In my cases it is usually condo hi rises.

you can't counter this phenomenom. If your staircase air si warmer than outside, there will be astack effect. thsi depends on height and dT (density difference). this all creates a pressure difference, which will move the air through the stack.

Not heating your staircase woudl be the only way to avoid this affect.

what you can do is counteract the affect, meaning seal your building to let the above pressure difference move as little air as possible.

but no, you can't delete stack effect and gravity.

Herr. Thank you for your answer. But reality is that even the best built building will suffer from bad execution from the workers and that will pass unoticed during inspection. So the problem is that because of this infiltration in the winter especially is critical and therefore creates discomfort for the occupants. In some litterature it is recomended to install rotating doors for better tightness. But i dont see how that corrects the infiltration through the lower floor level condos. I was thinking of increasing pressurisation in the concerned corridors through a pressure sensor that would activate a seperate dedicated air make up unit. And for the upper floors where there is pressure build up thus creating exfiltration i was thinking of creating a pressure release vent again by measurinv the pressure with a pressure diff. Sensor to activate that pressure release device!
Any input is welcome i think that this subject has to be seriously addressed especially for countries with winter climats

If you manage to counter the stairway stack effect, you'll still be faced with those elevator shafts. Seal, seal, seal, as HerrKaLeun said. You have to enforce good workmanship to keep a tight building.

I do agree with you that this the solution but as a mechanical i'm not the one controling this part of the construction.
