Flat Roof Snow Projections

Flat Roof Snow Projections

Flat Roof Snow Projections

(OP)
I have a flat roof with a roof length of 55'. When dealing with ASCE 7-05 section 7.8 and Figure 7-8, what would my "W" horizontal distance of the drift triangle be? I have no "ridge" distance, thus assuming W would be my full roof length, 55'?

Thanks!

RE: Flat Roof Snow Projections

Why are you calculating drift load for a flat roof? Is there a parapet or taller structure adjacent to this roof? The little 'w' in question is the drift width, not to be confused with the big 'W' which is the eave to ridge distance for unbalanced snow loading. If you are looking at a windward drift at a parapet or taller structure, then little 'w' would be a function of your roof length, lu=55'.

Correct, parapet around the perimeter. I guess that was my confusion in that the "w" in figure 7-8 looked to be capital W, thus, my errant search began. Thanks for the clarification.
