Software for Steam Plant Evaluation
Software for Steam Plant Evaluation
(OP)
I am looking for some software to be able to complete a preliminary analysis of a steam/power plant within a metallurgical complex. The software should perform a mass and energy balance around a chosen cycle. Some of the situations are: Steam from waste heat sources tied into boilers for a main steam system, power generation via steam turbines, gas turbines, etc.

There are several programs that I know of and use, but they are pricey. GateCycle, PEPSE, and Ebalance are three that I know of. You are probably better off to just perform the calculations yourself. I typically use Excel, and a Steam Property add in to do all of my thermo calcs. General Physics sells a pretty inexpensive one.
Good Luck!

If you're going to try "home-grown" (which ought not be too difficult for an industrial combined cycle, co-gen sort of application), you might consider the free steam properties Excel Add-In that was cited in Thread391-48694

Hey I think you got the wrong thread. The one you put in doesn't say anything about an excel add in. I would like to find a free add in. Please try to find the thread and post it here again.
Thanks.

Sorry about that.
Now, I can't find the thread either, but here is the actual site link - which I'd saved for my own reference (and ought to have given you in the first place).
