This is my first post, so i hope that i'm stating correctly this question:

In an Axisymmetric Structure(let's say a disk) when subjected to a radial thermal gradient, the stress field has the biggest influence in the circumferential(hoop) direction, i have run a FE model considering a 200°C radial thermal gradient.(i.e. 15°C in the inner radius and 215°C in the outer radius), and by reducing the radial thickness of the cross section(i.e. r_out-r_in) the hoop stress remains almost the same, this same effect happens when reducing the axial thickness, however, when a geometrical feature is positioned in one corner of the outer radius the stress distribution changes and a bigger compressive hoop stress is found, i don't know exactly how to explain this, any help would be great.

I mean in my FE model, it doesn't look like the geometrical feature is concentrating stress.
