Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

(OP)
Hi all,
I'm designing drop-in concrete anchor for new vibration clamp on existing vibration pipe. The vibration clamp is directly installed on existing concrete column with drop-in anchors. The anhor is under dynamic (cyclic) load (1000 lbs p-p).
I'm confusing on using type of anchor, undercut vs epoxy anchor, for my application.

1. Vibration specialist recommended to used expoxy anchor, it will handle dynamic loads better than undercut anchor.
2. I'm checking with the anchor supplier, they said their undercut anchor is better than epoxy anchor for dynamic load and it has been tested in european.

Also, as per ACI annex D, it only covers anchor to be designed under static loading.

Could you please advide what type of anchor will be best for dynamic loads?
Any design guide for anchor under dynamic loading?

Thank you

RE: Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

Mechnical undercut anchors for dynamic loading...my opinion. Who was the supplier? Hilti? Believe them.

RE: Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

(OP)
Yes. HDA anchor from hilti. However, the HDA was designed based on european code , ETAG 001
I was looking for section in ETAG 001 that have guideline for designing an anchor under dynamic load but no luck.

Thanks

RE: Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

I would use HDA....also no guarantee that the epoxy anchors will be installed correctly...

RE: Undercut vs epoxy anchor under dynamic loading

It really depends on the model of the anchor, not the type. Hilti, for instance, has some types of epoxy and expansion anchors that are designed for cyclical loading, other types that aren't. Their engineering representative should be able to help you pick the correct type.
