Heat treatment temperature for S31803
Heat treatment temperature for S31803
(OP)
Hi,
Iam a quality engineer in L&T Valves, India.
Anybody could clarify and advise me the following,
Background:
We usually get Rolled bar from traders with a Mill TC.
For example:
Material grade: 316, F51 bars.
Mill Test certificate reports Heat treatment as 'Solution annealed'.
It doesn't mention at what temperature and duration, the solution annealing was carried out.
Clarification required:
What is the temperature and for duration, the solution annealing can be carried out at mill.
Can anybody advise me.
Thanks,
Moses

Easy to do, and plenty of room to mess it up.
The duplex S31803 is a different case. You need to be within a specific range, and quench rate is critical. This is why in all cases duplex grades should require testing for austenite/ferrite ratio and for intermetallics.
