AISC-ASD Steel Grade Coverage

AISC-ASD Steel Grade Coverage

(OP)
Hi guys,

I have to design a pin made of ASTM A320 L7 with yield strength of 105ksi (725 MPa).Does anyone know if AISC-ASD code will cover steel design for this grade too?Is there any limitation in steel grade for structural steel design in AISC ASD method?

I need a reference to show to the Client indicating AISC-ASD method will cover this steel grade.

Thanks for your assistance.

RE: AISC-ASD Steel Grade Coverage

I don't think it's listed as a material in the 14th Edition of the AISC. I checked the sections where they list the ASTM materials covered.
You could try calling AISC. If they say it's OK, document it with a phone conversation memo.

RE: AISC-ASD Steel Grade Coverage

What about being conservative and designing using a lower Fy and then spec the ASTM you have noted? As long as your material exceed the design Fy you're good... Or would that not be cost effective?
