What sort of work are you performing (i.e. Thermal Design, Fluid Design, Machine Design, or HVAC? I can list some books that I used in university that are available in the used market quite reasonably, but if they are in a different area than you work, it may be less than helpful.

Perhaps from 40+ years ago winky smile

But there are some standards, such as Marks and of course anything by Shigley.

Just this morning pulled out "Mechanical Engineering Design", Shigley & Mischke

Not a uni textbook, but much used - "Machinery's Handbook"

search around in the forums. The topic of favorite engineering texts has come up several times. Since 30% of the engineers in the forums are in the US, those threads should be pretty representative.

Another much used, non-university textbook; Design of Welded Structures by Omer Blodgett

I work mostly in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics and I always have a copy of Cameron Hydraulics and the GPSA Engineering Data Book close to hand. Crane 410 isn't far from my chair. In terms of actual university books, I still have all of them, and rarely if ever open one (and when I do, I am constantly disgusted at the number of very complex concepts that were presented as simple black and white). Other than tables of material performance or fluid properties the university texts are mostly worthless to an Engineering career (not sure that Mark's or Perry's are worlds better, but you gotta have 'em and I open each of them a couple of times a year).

Scroll down this link and refer to the appropriate discipline:
http://www.engineerscanada.ca/examination-syllabus

It will give you lots of referenced texts that are approved and used by most Canadian universities.
Many U.S. schools will also use these.
