Guideline for accepting / rejecting kink in concrete reinforcing bars

Guideline for accepting / rejecting kink in concrete reinforcing bars

Guideline for accepting / rejecting kink in concrete reinforcing bars

(OP)
Hi All,

Are there any guidelines for accepting kink in concrete reinforcing bars already on site. I'm not looking for manufactures standard for scraping a defected (kink) bar, I guess this could be variable depending the manufactures QA.

Thanks..

RE: Guideline for accepting / rejecting kink in concrete reinforcing bars

Before I would begin rejecting bars, I would be asking myself where they will be used and what loads they will see. It is my understanding that the purpose of the ACI standards for bar bends was to prevent local crushing of concrete as the bar is developed. The local crushing could lead to a sudden failure rather than yielding. And we all want things to yield and give warning in the event of overloading rather than sudden failure.
