SA-403-WP347S REDUCING TEE DESIGN

SA-403-WP347S REDUCING TEE DESIGN

SA-403-WP347S REDUCING TEE DESIGN

(OP)
The component is a fabricated 20 x 20 x 12 reducing tee regarded as seamless by the customer. It's made in two halves split at the 3 and 9 o'clock positions with a radiued transition at the intersection. Pressure is 610 psi, T is 785 F, Spec is SA-403-WP347S. Header wall thickness is speced by me at 7/8" and .704" after adjustments, with the branch wall at 1/2" and 3/8" after adjustments for CA and mil tol.

I am having a problem convincing the customer to use the header wall thickness I calculate using the removed area method or the ASME VIII Div 2 method using 1.5 X allowable and a SIF of 2.5 to calculate stress at intersection.

Using ASME VIII Div 2 , I can reduce the nominal header wall thickness from 7/8" to 11/16" which rounds up stock size to 3/4".

B16.9 requires testing to substantiate the pressure rating, but the wall thickness must be determined somehow.
Am I missing something?

Thanks for your help.
