Arch Bridge

Arch Bridge

Arch Bridge

(OP)
Hi,

Currently I am task to come up with an option/feasibility study on proposing a 250m length and 30m wide single span bridge across a canal. Due to the vertical clearance constrains, I am trying to propose a Tie-Arch Bridge for this project.

Is Arch Bridge the most economical in this situation?

Is the depth of deck structure determined by the spacing of the hangers? I have only space for roughly 2m thick of deck structure, is that adequate?

Thanks.

RE: Arch Bridge

You can find more information about preliminary deisgn of tied arch bridges in the Structural Steel Designer's Handbook. Note older verisions of this book may not reflect the current LRFD code.

The deck structure (floorbeams, stringers, deck and not including the barrier height) will be close at 6 feet for a deck width of about 90 feet (30 m). The floorbeam alone should be about 7-8 feet (2.5 m) and the stringers will likely be 30 to 36 inches (0.75 to 1 m). The concrete deck would be a noiminal 200 mm or 8 inches.
