Is this possible?

Looking to create a product that requires two different polymer materials. The end product needs to be a sturdy, chemical/oil and heat resistant. What I would Like to do is have one item that under normal circumstances is one solid item. Then when a chemical element is added, I would like a portion to melt away leaving a finished product un effected. Not sure if this is possible. Just have this idea floating around in my head and need to know if I should pursue it or not. Thanks for any help you can provide.

RE: Is this possible?

Research "dissolvable plugs"

It is better to have enough ideas for some of them to be wrong, than to be always right by having no ideas at all.

Thanks. I think I want to use polycaprolactone. Now I just need a 3d printer that can print multiple materials to make my prototype.

RE: Is this possible?

It's very possible. 3D printers from e.g. Stratasys and presumably others, actually print a dissolvable support as well as the main polymer. Then you throw it in a bath and the support dissolves. The commercial machines do it already.
