Hi everybody, i'm working on the calculation of flat plates that are supported by stays according to ASME VIII div1.
Just to be more clear, the vessel is cylindrical with two flat plates that closes it. In order to reduce thickness, the flat plates are stayed with staybolts.
Initialy I'm using UG-37 formulae t = p (P/SC)^0,5. Where p is the pitch between staybolts.
In some other recipients the flat plates that are supported by big stay tubes. In this case if I use UG-37 the flat plates becomes thicker because the pitch is quite large. The point is that the unstayed area is smaller than the cases of stayed with staybolts.
So I'm thinking in using UG-34 t = d (CP/SE)^0,5 where d should be the diameter of the unstayed area.
I'd preciate if someone could give me his advice. Regards,
