ASTM E1300 Long and Short duration loads

(OP)
Hello,
I am checking the design of glass curtain walls mainly subjected to wind loads using ASTM E1300 , I am confused about the long and short duration loads . I understood that short duration load is considered to be acting for 3 secs and long duration for 30 days (correct me if I am mistaken). but I don't know when to consider each case, any clarification is highly appreciated.
Hussam,
