Hello all,

A valve vendor has offered body material A350 LF2 instead of A216 WCB for 16” ball valves. The operating conditions are as follows:

a. Sour HC condensate
b. operating temperature is approximately 50 degC
c. MDMT is -29 degC
d. 3 phase fluid state

I am aware that repeating queries may be frustrating for helpful members of this forum, but I searched and couldnt find a similar query which compares these two metal grades. I checked the difference in chemical composition, and apart from determining that A216 WCB is slightly more alloyed than A350 LF2 and that A350 LF2 is for low temperature service, I am not sure how to assess if they are equivalent or not for this particular application.

From a corrosion standpoint, they should be considered equivalent. From a mechanical metallurgy standpoint, the forging is superior. From a cost standpoint the casting is cheaper; however, if the supplier will provide the forged body at the same cost, pick the forging.
