Intermediate Wind Girder

Intermediate Wind Girder

Intermediate Wind Girder

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

Is installation of intermediate wind girder on inside of tank permitted by API 650?

RE: Intermediate Wind Girder

It would normally be avoided due to either having a floating roof, or due to the possibility of having one at some point in the future. But I don't see that API prohibits it, either. The wording on the top wind girders says they shall "preferably" be located outside.

RE: Intermediate Wind Girder

If I were to do such a design, I would make sure that the corrosion allowance (if applicable) was applied to all surfaces of the wind girder.

RE: Intermediate Wind Girder

It is not prohibited and it is not that uncommon in extremely high snow areas where falling snow and ice can wipe out girders
