Bolt Spacing in Steel Base Plate into Concrete

Bolt Spacing in Steel Base Plate into Concrete

Bolt Spacing in Steel Base Plate into Concrete

(OP)
Hi Guys

A design has been carried out for some bolts in a base plate & they were spaced at 90mm when the code says the minimum should be 105mm, this was missed when been checked (wasn't me)and site went ahead and installed the steelwork at the bottom of a shaft.

However the client has now picked up on this and raised the issue with us, does anybody know any clever ways of dealing with this as stripping out the steelwork to put in a new base plate isn't really an option and would be quite costly!!

Any help/advice or some examples on how to deal with this problem would be much appreciated. However I do realise it should be 105mm but am just wondering if there is any such thing as a get out clause??

RE: Bolt Spacing in Steel Base Plate into Concrete

hi

Can you expand on the problem ie sketch, size of bolts and loadings.
That said if you space them at 90mm does that mean you put more bolts in? if not why not add some more bolts, I can't see why 90mm spacing is a problem from your post, I would be more concerned if they spaced the bolts at 150mm.

What code says that? Why? Are the bolts and plates adequate when you apply first principles?
