Calculate damping coeffiecient of a bicycle hand pump
Calculate damping coeffiecient of a bicycle hand pump
(OP)
Hi,
I am planning on using a bicycle hand pump as a viscous damper for a small project I am working on.
I need to know the damping coefficent of the hand pump in order to put it in my later equations but cannot work out how to calculate it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks!!!

I would start by modeling the system as elementary system with 1 Degree of Freedom, putting a spring and a damper in parallel.
Just a thought: the pump can heat up and looks like it is another complexity.

The barrel size and orifice size connection was the way I thought it would be done although the pump will not be connected to another tank it will be releasing air into the atmosphere which may create problems?
That document looks very interesting and helpful although I will have to look in more detail when I have the time.
Overall I'm looking for a value in N/mm/s
