Built Up Column

Built Up Column

(OP)
I'm designing a built up column (two wide flanges laced together - think of a long vertical truss). I've modeled all of it's components in RISA-3D, and I'm using the Direct Analysis Method for stability. I don't know if I can take RISA's results at face value. I understand that the software is checking the individual components of the column locally, but is it checking global buckling of the entire built up column as a unit? Would the second order analysis catch this for me?

I should also mention that this column is stepped (a crane-column), so even though the overall column has a pin-pin condition (K=1.0) for Direct Analysis, I don't believe the upper and lower components of it should get K=1.0. Or should they?
