Weld access hole?
Weld access hole?
(OP)
First let me say this may be the dumbest question ever.
I was looking at a set of shop drawings the other day with some moment connections. On the drawings they had a blow up of a typical moment connection with the weld access holes. Here they labeled the access hole as a "Rad" hole. Now, I have always referred to this hole as a "Rat" hole. Other detailers who I have talked to have referred to the hole as a "Rat" hole as well..... but we were taught by the same people so I don't know if we are referring to this hole properly. What is this hole commonly referred to as?

No offshore detailing here. The fabricator is a company that is run by engineers. The do everything soup to nuts (engineering to erection). The job I was reviewing was one of two project I was awarded 9 months ago. 8 months ago I was fired from the second job. Not because I screwed up the first job but because this company muscled their way in with the owner ans said they could provide a better package if they were doing the engineering themselves. Very irritating experience.
Anyway, I just wanted to make sure I had the slang correct and I wasn't sounding like an idiot in the field.
