ASME Section VIII Division 3, Design temperature and its application to Aluminum parts

ASME Section VIII Division 3, Design temperature and its application to Aluminum parts

(OP)
Hi Everyone,

I'm trying to understand the implications of the definition of the design temperature in Section KD-112 of Division 3. Specifically, we would like to use Aluminum for the polar boss in the design of a composite pressure vessel, and during some processing stages of the part we expect the temperature to exceed the maximum allowable design temperature of Aluminum. However, during service of the pressure we will be well below the design temperature. The question is, if during processing we exceed the design temperature of the Aluminum part are violating the code specification?

If anyone has any insight on this, it would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

RE: ASME Section VIII Division 3, Design temperature and its application to Aluminum parts

Try to be a bit more specific;- is the boss going to be heated long enough to be overheated across the thinnest section or is a short exposure to high temperature, not long enough for complete heat soaking?
