When doing piping design how do we know the strength of a valve body?

What wall thickness piping and resulting loads can be connected to a valve?

For example I have high pipe stress next to my DN300 class 900 gate valve. I can increased the pipe wall thickness to lower the pipe stress but at some point I am going to over stress the valve body.

You could check within API 6D, it seems that there is some mention there. In general, the thickness of the valve body is significantly higher, as it is usually designed for hydrotest of 1.5 x working pressure, whereas the adjacent pipe usually has a much lower factor, often 1.25 or less. Generally the valve will be able to take more load than the adjacent pipe.
