EN 12285-2 for pressure vessel design

EN 12285-2 for pressure vessel design

EN 12285-2 for pressure vessel design

(OP)
Hi,
Im a mechanical/piping engineer, and im used to ASME sec VIII div1 for design.
Ive been asked however, to design a diesel storage tank, using "EN 12285-2".
Ive got no idea what-so-ever where to start from, as all my previous vessel designs have been based on ASME sec VII div 1.
Help urgently needed.

Thanks in anticipation

RE: EN 12285-2 for pressure vessel design

Your diesel storage tank is a horizontal tank, most likeky a double skin tank for 100% secondary containment. The design is similar ot the UL 142 tanks design, including all the safety features. Vent/vacuum valve fitted with a flame arrester, emergency vent for fire condition, inlet outlet piping/nozzles in top, anti-syphone valve on the outlet line to prevent draining of the tank, fill pipe internally fitted with a over-fill prevention valve (standard from the suppliers), level controls with Zone 1 certification. Tank seated on two standard saddles and no additional concret bunding required.
However;- you might not be competitive as far as cost concerns with specialised suppliers of double skin diesel storage tanks, most of them cylindrical or square section and easy portable from site to site, all standard safety features provided, tested and certified. Why would anyone spend time and effort, then blow the cost instead of buying a complete unit, tested, certified and better quality than you ever make. Off the shelf, ready to be filled up and operated.
Cheers,
