How to switch the coordinate system for a datum point

How to switch the coordinate system for a datum point

How to switch the coordinate system for a datum point

(OP)
Hi.

I was wondering if there is a way inside a relation to re-reference a datum point to a different csys than the one it was created under? I have a series of transformations I am doing to a point and it would be so nice to just transfer the point to the next coordinate system after each transform, in preparation for starting the next transform.

Many thanks for any advice! :)

Looks like the only way I can think of to make this work is to have my datum point fixed in relation to a CSys, and let the CSys be rotated around for each transformation.

Hm...On second thought, that would only be good for about one datum point. If I have a relation to generate a curve of some sort, where that curve must then be mapped onto some surface, I would end up with thousands of individual CSys's, and I'll bet ProE/Creo will not allow that to happen.

Now I'm thinking just do all of the xforms on the datum point, but don't apply the final results to the dimensions until after it is all completed. At that time, the dimensions would be the offsets from the original CSys.

OK, I think I had a major brain fart. A little rusty on my linear algebra. The transforms are fine as is since each one in essence, rotates the CSys, NOT the point, during calculations. But in reality, the PHYSICAL PRoE CSys has not rotated at all. So the calculated position of the point is already in the correct relationship to that CSys. Therefore, the final answer is still with respect to the original CSys, and everything is fine.

Verified as working.

Thanks, treddie for straightening that out for me.
Ah! No problem treddie. Glad I could help. :))
