Select Fill v. Structural Fill

Select Fill v. Structural Fill

Select Fill v. Structural Fill

(OP)
I've seen these terms used for different situations in soil reports. I had used them interchangeably. But someone corrected me and explained they are NOT the same thing.

If that is correct, what are each? Specifically, what are the differences?

RE: Select Fill v. Structural Fill

there is no "standard definition" you would have to ask the author of the geotechnical report what he meant. It would vary from one place to another. However, in general, select material is just one step above common fill except that larger rocks are screened out. Structural fill generally is another step up from select material with tighter gradation limits, PI limits, and usually is a granular material.
