Connection between Bronze and Steel for a Statue

Connection between Bronze and Steel for a Statue

Connection between Bronze and Steel for a Statue

(OP)
Hi All,

I've been tasked this morning with finding out how to connect a bronze statue to the ground this morning! In other words, how to connect a steel baseplate to the bottom of the statue so that we might be able to connect it through to the footing.

The statue is similar to Link

Has anybody here got any expereince connecting these? It seems like the base is made of bronze from this picture but I wonder is there a steel plate underneath, and if so, how is it connected to the bronze.

Would appreciate your help.

Thanks,
Naggud

I've posted a thread link in Corrosion Engineering... likely going to get a better response from there...

RE: Connection between Bronze and Steel for a Statue

It seems to me, the place to start is with the statue. If this is something currently being planned or produced, or recently produced, then whoever made it should have information on how it ought to be attached. Or if it's something existing/old, you need to look at the bottom and see what the options are. Are there threaded holes below? Holes in the baseplate?

How about a nice 2-part epoxy? I would be thinking 50-75 microns of surface texture on each face (2-3 mils if you prefer) for an anchor profile. Should also give you some galvanic isolation.

Is this a case where some type of rubber or neoprene gasket might help?
