the mirror display sill dos't work with solids in nx8.0.3.4. is there a version i can look forward to seeing it work correctly? referring to a post from 12-13-11 "missing mirror display"

RE: mirror display

I'm running NX 8.0.3.4 and it seems to work fine with solids. What problem are you having, exactly?

Also, a link to the other thread you mention would be nice...

the link is here

the problem is if the entire solid you want mirrored falls of the screen it also takes away the mirrored part making it difficult to see if your assembly is actually mirrored. it will keep all curves weather they are on the screen or not.

RE: mirror display

It appears that it still works as described in your previous thread (in NX 8 and NX 8.5). Did you get any feedback on your PR?

RE: mirror display

Interesting, but i found a workaround for you smile

It seems that the graphics card dumps the mirror image of the model if the "original" becomes invisible, so the trick is to keep the original visible... ( Yes , really smart smile
I tried two methods to do this, and both seem to work.
method 1, Use a layout showing two views, then zoom only one to the mirror. ( the other still shows at least the original)
method 2, open a second window ( can be behind / hidden) one of these windows will display the original.

Interestingly, i have a grip program from the Unigraphics V9-ish-time, yep some +20 years old, still working , Using Grip one can define layouts other than the ones provided out of the box, such as a layout with a minimal view in one of the corners of the graphics.
I have been recommended not use these layouts since the current graphics technology is quite different. anyhow it also does the trick, if one dares. ( On the other hand, one must maybe not save after using the layout if it is for design review usage ?)
Attached is a screendump of this "not-recommended-layout-style", a small view in the upper right showing both original and mirror. The main view only displays the mirror.

Tomas

toost,

i need to see both solids close up to make sure there is no flaw in structure / outline of each detail. some differences may be within 0.25MM on a 20 foot assy. old (nx3) ug had this capability.

cowski,
they say its a culling thing????? not going to get it any time soon. the way i understood it was, it is still open but not a priority, another great feature of ug that went away? anyone else ever really use this function? we use it all all the time here (at least when we could)

But does my second proposed method ( 2 physical windows) prevent you from any graphics detail ?
All you need is a second graphics window, it can be completely obscured by the one you are working in,since it shows the original body,it will force the graphics adapter to keep the graphics data used in the "top" window.
See attached image.

Tomas

toost what a great solution!!!....if one window shows everything (in background) i can see all mirrored solids in main window. god bless this site! toost if i could give you 10 stars i would....what a great day this is!!!
