Reading recommendations for Mac Struts

(OP)
Hi all! I'm new here...I stumbled into this forum while searching for info regarding those (damn sticky!) McPherson Struts. =)

I've read plenty of material on double a-arms but has of yet found a comprehensive discussion on struts. i found the insights presented by greg and matsuri626 from a previous thread very intriguing. are there any authors/publications that can be recommended which futhur pursues this subject?

also would like to learn a bit more about bmw's font strut design (with the offset steering axis). any leads?

thanks!

RE: Reading recommendations for Mac Struts

I think you will find that almost all MacP/ride/shake knowledge is proprietary. Even the bible and Gillespie don't have much to say on the issues, although Ren and Stimpy might.

I'll start a new thread on double ball joint suspensions.

Cheers

hi all

the instant center caused by the 2 lower links was what i was trying to refer to... couldn't think of the proper name to call it, thanks Matsuri!

thanks to all for the info, and epecially Gregs model, looks like camber & caster changes quite a bit with steering... would taking out the vertical offset of the lower ball joints affect anti-dive only?

forgot to ask... greg, which episode of ren and stimpy?

RE: Reading recommendations for Mac Struts

Ren&Stimpy= Reimpell & Stoll The automotive chassis : engineering principles

I think you are on the right track with the vertical offset of the ball joints, but my brain is full of hayfever pills and I can't think about it this morning.

hey, can we try and impose some lane discipline here? You know, discuss double ball joints in the ball joints thread, etc?

Admittedly we don't have a Ren&Stimpy thread, for obvious reasons.

Cheers

Greg Locock
