Design of Sheet Pile for Bridge Abutment Protection

Design of Sheet Pile for Bridge Abutment Protection

Design of Sheet Pile for Bridge Abutment Protection

(OP)
We are going to design sheet piles as abutment protection for our bridge since the waterway is already too much constricted and scouring is eminent in the abutments.
Can anyone tell me if there are any manual for the design? is there any aashto code? foundation?

Also, at the top of the pile cap, maybe (since the hydraulic analysis is not yet finished) we will put RC slope protection or Grouted riprap, whichever is needed.

Thanks!

You can go to www.slideruleera.net and download the old US Steel sheet piling manual, plenty of design examples to show how to calculate earth pressure and embedment. However, you'll still need to follow the current edition of AASHTO

Thanks sir bridgebuster!!

Do you have any sample design?

How About the AASHTO code? Do you have a copy of the code?

RE: Design of Sheet Pile for Bridge Abutment Protection

Your company should have purchased a copy of the code if you are bidding on this type of work. If not, then get them to purchase one.
