pig launcher and receiver clouser parts requires U stamp?

pig launcher and receiver clouser parts requires U stamp?

pig launcher and receiver clouser parts requires U stamp?

(OP)
Dear friends,
pig launcher and receiver clouser parts is fabricated by one small vendor.our client asking for U stamp certification by inspector. Is it necessary to stamp the closure parts of Pig launcher/receiver.i have no idea about U-2/U2a form and its details of ASME SEC VIII Devision 1.Can u friends please explain it?

RE: pig launcher and receiver clouser parts requires U stamp?

It is a very common requirement that the closure be designed to BVP code and that it be stamped as such.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

The QOC can be U stamped as a PART, not a complete vessel. When only a PART of a vessel is fabricated, the U-2 or U-2A Mfr's Partial Data Report is completed instead of U-1 or U-1A. Hydrostatic testing would occur when the vessel the QOC PART is welded into is completed. The U-1 or U-1A mfrs data report must include the reference for the U-2 or U-2A partial data report of the QOC incorporated into the completed vessel.

So you can U stamp complete vessels and you can also U stamp PARTs that go into making complete vessels (such as hinged closures, tank heads, rolled & welded shells)

Mr.Biginch
the above statement is correct.by conducting hydrotest of vessel after assemble.can we directly stamp the clouser part based on vessel data.?

RE: pig launcher and receiver clouser parts requires U stamp?

Parts can be stamped independently of a vessel.

See also B31.4 pp 404.7.2 & 3 & 4
It is not required by B31.4 that traps, or their quick-opening closures be designed to BPV codes, although quick-opening closures must have safety locking devices that are in compliance with BPV VIII-Div 1

Closure Heads (flat, conical, ellipsoid, or spherical, must be designed to ASME BPV VIII-Div 1

Under B31.4-2009 the complete trap need not be designed or constructed to BPV VIII, but must be designed in accordance with the pressure containing provisions of B31.4 (pp 403) itself, and may not be of a lesser pressure rating than of the pipeline to which it is attached.

Independent events are seldomly independent.
