I am confronted with the challenge to strip a large flue gas flow from rust particles. These particles are flake shaped with an area up to 2000 square millimeters and a thickness of 0.1 mm. I want to find out whether a spray tower could be a remedy to capture these particles. AFter studying the literature I see spray towers mentioned as a possible solution for my problem. However there seems to be some upper limit for the flow, but I haven't found the reason why. I have contacted Fisher Klosterman, but they just gave me a no without an explanation why. Appearantly the knowledge to size a spray tower is not based on public available scientific research. Maybe I looked for the wrong things.
I would be greatfull for any hints, literature references or contacts with companies that may be of service to me.

The spray tower itself does not seem to me as the best possible solution.
You have flakes,
I would also consider impaction technologies where droplets would "catch" the scales. May be a venturi. Maybe a wet scrubber could do the job, with a much reduced pressuire drop.

More studies are required; but the spray tower (without a down stream baghouse filter) looks suspect to me, unless you manage a high spraying density.
