Making a plane in Catia Product environment

Making a plane in Catia Product environment

Making a plane in Catia Product environment

(OP)
Is it possible & if yes how?

RE: Making a plane in Catia Product environment

I mean the plane to actually belong to the product - not one of the parts in it

RE: Making a plane in Catia Product environment

Hello MT82.

To the best of my knowledge, in CATIA a Product is a collection of Products (ie Products, Part-Products and Components). So no features (like a plane is) can be added to this collection.

Please let us know why you need to add a plane feature in a Product's collection.

Imposible is nothing.

Gelfs- thank you for the reply in this andthe other thread of mine you answered

I dont know if it is absolutely necessary but to be honest i am stuck with a problem and try to find alternatives-maybe someone has a better idea of how to get around it:

I am given a catproduct file which has an engine block as a part and another part is a hose with a conical type fitting - the product is missing the cast fitting that connects the hose via its conical interface to the engine block flat type classical flanged interface. I have to design the fitting that connects the hose to the engine block. I am not allowed to manipulate any of the parts in any way - their relative position is a given and i have to deign the cast fitting that connects them

so it seems i have to accumulated the flanged type pattern from the block and the conical hose pattern that fits internally to the water hose how wuld you go around it?

I was thinking of creating planes inside the product and then placing a block of material inside it and with subtract form a rough outter shape of the fitting i have to design and then work on it

Any ideas welcome

RE: Making a plane in Catia Product environment

Hi MT82,
I would do the following:
1. Insert a New Part in the product and name it InterfaceFlange.
2. Make InterfaceFlange instance the UI Active one (just double click on it)
3. Click on the abutting face of the EngineBlock and select Sketch. Alternatively and if you need to create your sketch perpendicular to the EngineBlock abutting face, then create a plane perpendicular to the subject face of EngineBlock and then create a sketch on it.
4. In sketch you may use Project 3D to dynamically copy geometrical items of the EngineBlock or ConicalFitting. Complete the geomerty of your fitting and exit the sketch.
5. Use Pad/Pocket/Shaft command to create the body of the InterfaceFlange.
...

If you need further help just let us know.
