incomplete grout under steel base plate

incomplete grout under steel base plate

incomplete grout under steel base plate

(OP)
I came across a situation where contractor ran out of grout under steel base plate and 1" of portion remained empty without grout under base plate. Does anyone suggest a good retrofit solution?

I am thinking about installing shims and welding together. its about 20" x 20" x 1 1/4" base plate.

thanks in advance.

RE: incomplete grout under steel base plate

It may sound dumb... but can you just dry pack it with grout? i would say chip out some of the existing grout and then dry pack with non-shrink grout... i think the manuf can shed light on minimum recommended areas (ie knock out an area 6"x6"x1")

RE: incomplete grout under steel base plate

Agree with EE...just re-grout it or finish off will epoxy grout. Drill holes in base plate to let air escape and allow full contact under the baseplate.

RE: incomplete grout under steel base plate

I would not have thought of the holes Ron, Good point. I will probably use that someday, I suppose the hole can be as small as the contractor can drill.

RE: incomplete grout under steel base plate

EE...hole doesn't have to be large...I usually suggest 1/4" to 1/2" depending on the base plate.
