% Shear for Impact test
% Shear for Impact test
(OP)
I’m having a mental block with respect to impact testing of ASME IX weld procedures. If we see a WPS which reports 10% shear, is this acceptable for ASME IX? I know this values is quite low (alarmingly so), but can we reject the WPS do to the low values?
The example WPS template ASME provides (QW-483), includes the %Shear for impact tests, however I cannot find the acceptable values. Per QW-171.2 acceptance shall be in accordance with that Section specifying impact requirements, so it seems to be up to the design code (ASME B31.3, VIII, etc).
If 10%shear is reported for a WPS used per ASEM VIII, what is your opinion on the acceptance test data (since ASME VIII is only concerned with absorbed energy and lateral expansion)?
