Compressor Pictures

Compressor Pictures

(OP)
I've been asked to expand my Unconventional Gas class to include offshore. That expansion requires a discussion of centrifugal compressors. Looking through my 33 years of photos, I have found that I don't have a single picture of a centrifugal compressor that I can positively identify the compressor or driver model or hp. I'm trying to demonstrate the energy density of a gas turbine driven centrifugal compared to an engine driven recip so I need to know the hp of the centrifugal to be able to place it next to the equivalent hp recip(s).

Anyone have any photos that they'd be willing to have me place in my course material (I'll give you photo credit, but no money).

RE: Compressor Pictures

Why can't you just use vendor stock photos?

I CAN'T FIND ANY. This has been the oddest exercise I've been on in a while. I've been on all the turbine vendor web sites, all the compressor vendor web sites, all the offshore fabricator web sites, and a lot of the end user web sites and I haven't found a single photograph of a gas turbine/centrifugal compressor that I can (1) see the components; (2) identify the design capacity (both design throughput and input hp); and/or (3) get a size reference in the photo. For recips it is easy I can find all kinds of pictures with a person or a vehicle or a gate for size reference and a caption with the compressor and driver model designations (e.g., Ariel JGK/4 with a Waukesha 7042 GL). For centrifugals I haven't found a single picture that is not missing 1, 2 or all 3 of these things. My goal is to compare the footprint of similar capacity machines for a class.

RE: Compressor Pictures

have you tried this one? http://mysolar.cat.com/cda/layout?m=204041&x=7

Click on the size then click on the data sheet on the RHS - seems to give you a picture of the compressor with a man standing next to it and dimensions.

Not sure what sort of size you're aiming for.

My motto: Learn something new every day

Also: There's usually a good reason why everyone does it that way

Thanks for the link. Several of those pictures were nearly what I wanted, but they were all onshore where they were able to spread out. The point of the slide is the main reason that you use centrifugals offshore is the energy density of a gas-turbine/centrifugal-compressor package. I've seen 20,000 hp of compression (with sea-water coolers) in the space that I would need for a 500 hp recip package (with air-coolers).

RE: Compressor Pictures

Zdas, I have some pictures but I dont own them as they are part of presentations/slides document owned by my former company.
Would it be correct if I send you some ?

Offshore/onshore the train by itself will not change, except more compact design of the skid (e.g. lube oil system integrated). plate oil cooler, and three point support baseplate.

Whatever you would be comfortable with, I'm fine with. If if find something that works, I will contact the owner to try to get permission to use it. So far companies have been happy to have photo credit in my class material. My e-mail address is on my web page (Link below).
