Hi, I'm eperimentating with the ribbons in nx9 -
Where is the setting to turn off text below Icons
regards

RE: nx 9 text below icons

Right mouse click on Ribbon and select customize, then right click on Icon and select small Icon.
To remove text from large Icon Delete text under Name.

Win7 64 bit w/NX7.5 and NX8.5
Vericut 7.2

Hmm no chance text under the icon stays,
the text is consuming a lot of space. Not really an enhancement.
Is there some thing like an idea to navigate through the ribbons.
In classic ui most things are grouped to "what I itend to do" edit->curve or Insert-> offset/ scale -> offset face
In the ribbons - it is cluttered in galleries dropdowns and I got to the old menue...
BTW - I'm testing since the release day ...

RE: nx 9 text below icons

There is NO option to turn off the text under so-called 'Large Icons' used on an NX 9.0 'ribbon'. And that's by design.

And while your comment that "...the text is consuming a lot of space" might appear to be true, the reality is that the height of the ribbon is 'fixed' (actually there are two optional ribbon sizes but they are global so the rules don't change) so even if there was an option, the space recovered could not be used for anything else since the ribbon was design to be high enough to accommodate a SINGLE 'large' icon. Now you can change any icon that you wish to be a 'small' icon, with or without text which can then be stacked within the ribbon. Now with a 'gallery', you will have three option, 'large', 'Medium' or 'small' icons, and each with optional text so there are actually six options, just that when setting up a gallery, all icons in the gallery are treated the same, all 'medium' (which is the usual default), or all 'small' or all 'large' and all with or without text.

RE: nx 9 text below icons

The ribbons are fully customizable. You can organize them and their content in any way that you wish.

RE: nx 9 text below icons

how can i undock the ribbon bar?..... I haven't found a way, it seems that this interface is aimed at a low end type / single screen set-up only

RE: nx 9 text below icons

fyi
found something editing the ribbon layout,
in select shared group option - flow layout

RE: nx 9 text below icons

@moog2
undocking the ribbon bar can be done one tab at a time, RMB on tab title.

RE: nx 9 text below icons

ok, thanks...... also, is it possible to undock the selection bar? I'd like ALL toolbars off the graphics screen, or can I move the selection onto one of the ribbons somehow?

RE: nx 9 text below icons

There's nothing preventing you from creating a 'Selection' Ribbon, moving whateve you like from anywhere onto this new ribbon, thus freeing up the 'Top Sidebar' for being used like the Left, Right and Bottom 'Sidebars'.

RE: nx 9 text below icons

Thanks John, i'm setting up classic and ribbon menu's both together, until I decide which i'll use. In classic mode I can't seem to move the selection bar off onto a toolbar , is this still not possible?
Also, in ribbon mode, can I undock the file tab as well, I don't seem to get that option

RE: nx 9 text below icons

The so-called 'Selection Bar' has never been undockable.

As for undocking the 'File' tab, no that's not supported, but you could create, using Customize -> Shortcuts, a 'View' Shortcut ('floating' toolbar) where you could add whatever icons that you wish, including such as 'New', 'Open', 'Save', etc. This 'Shortcut' will appear whenever you press the MB1 over the display screen (BTW, you can do this same thing with NX 8.5).
