height/diameter ratio for cores of concrete pavements

height/diameter ratio for cores of concrete pavements

height/diameter ratio for cores of concrete pavements

(OP)
We have got a large quantity of PQC done through a contract. As per the acceptance criteria cores are planned to be cut.

Indian Standard 516 'Method of tests for strength of concrete' specifies that for a height/diameter ratio of 2 for the core the compressive strength is 5/4 times the load at which the core fails. For height/diameter ratio between 1 to 2 the correction factor has been given.

In our specific case the pavement is 350 mm thick and the cores were cut for 100 mm. As the height/diameter ratio is more than 2 what is the normal practice in these cases? Should the core of 350 mm height be cut to a height of 200 mm and then tested or are there some correction factors for ratios more than 2?

Views are welcome.

Anyone who has had any specific experience in these situations please post your comments on other issues related to core testing also.

Best Regards.

Cut the cores to L/D=2.0
