B31.8 Depth of Cover

B31.8 Depth of Cover

(OP)
Does anyone know offhand if ASME B31.8 specifies a minimum depth of cover for 125 psi gas distribution piping running in a parkway?  Under a driveway?

RE: B31.8 Depth of Cover

Hello,

Please recognize that in the USA, gas piping comes under the Code of Federal Regulation (CFR), specifically 29 CFR 192.  B31.8 is a parallel document since the Federal government took over jurisdiction.   So you should go to this web site to view the applicable CFR:

http://www.dotpipeline.org/intellinav/

From there click on CFR 192 and when that document appears you should click on :

Subpart G: General Construction Requirements for Transmission Lines and Mains

And when that document appears, go to  “Sec. 192.327  Cover.

This section will give you the information that you are looking for.

Regards, John
