Belt Conveyor Roller Design & Belt Tracking

Belt Conveyor Roller Design & Belt Tracking

(OP)
Hello,
I am currently designing an inclined belt conveyor that has two rollers and one is driven.  I do not know the function\design criteria of crown or taper on the rollers and was wondering if someone could help me out or point me in the right direction.
I also am interested in the possible causes of belt mistracking.

Best Regards,
Joe K

RE: Belt Conveyor Roller Design & Belt Tracking

Crowning of flat belt pulleys are done to center the
belt by themselves during operation under normal
conditions (belt pulleys properly aligned , etc.).
The usual amount of crowning is 1/8" per foot of
pulley width. Further readings on this topic can be
found in Machinery Handbook 24 p.2278.

Belt mistracking can be due to improper belt tension,
misaligned pulleys or shafting, crooked belt and too
much crowning.

This really depends on your belt. 1/8" per foot could be way too much. Talk to your belt supplier and get their recommendation. A trapezoidal crown on your drive pulley is probably the cheapest to fabricate. You can also consider longitudinal v-belt attachments on the underside of your belt running in grooves on your slider surface.
