Glulam Beam on C.L.T. Wall

Glulam Beam on C.L.T. Wall

(OP)
I have glulam beams bearing on pockets of a cross-laminated timber wall. I would like to mechanically fasten the glulam beams to the C.L.T. wall. I am also finding that the bearing stress on the glulam beams exceed the maximum allowable stress. Any connections in mind? Preferably ones that are as hidden as possible. Thanks in advance!

RE: Glulam Beam on C.L.T. Wall

You could design a metal bearing plate large enough and oriented to lower the beam bearing stress to an acceptable level, and weld a kerf plate to the top of the plate that the beam could connect to with thru-bolts. Lag the plate to the wall studs/plate below.
