Socket weld fittings

Socket weld fittings

Socket weld fittings

(OP)
We find on the market cast steel socket weld fittings rated for 150 lb and 300 lb, in material 304L.  As far as I am concerned, they certainly meet the requirements for an application such as recirculating cooling water and open circuit river water.  We don't need forged steel fittings rated for 3000 lb.  In the ASME standard B31.9-1996, article 906.1.1 Listed Fittings, it says «Fittings manufactured in accordance with a specification or standard listed in Table 926.1 or Appencix A may be used ...».  Maybe I am blind but I have a hard time finding my way thru that.  Can any one tell me which manufacturing standard covers the cast steel socket weld fittings we find on the market that are rated for 150 lb or 300 lb ?

RE: Socket weld fittings

Hello,

Look at ASME B16.11

"Forged Fittings, Socket-Welding and Threaded"
This Standard provides a series of tables and information covering pressure ratings, dimensions, tolerances, marking and material requirements for socket-welding and threaded forged fittings.

Annex B provides a method for proof testing fittings

I think it was updated in 2001.

Also, PLEASE go to the discussion on this thread:

Thread174-10800

You will get some good insights on how to use socket weld fittings.  Remember the 1/16 inch gap and remember to inspect the fillet welds for undercut.

Regards, John.

RE: Socket weld fittings

Hello,

I am sorry, I was not fully reading and thinking-out your question.  There is some information at this site:

http://www.capitolcamco.com/Camco_General_Specs.htm

Look at the MSS Standards including SP-114-2001 (Corrosion Resistant Pipe Fittings Threaded and Socket Welding, Class 150 and 1000)and SP-119-1996 (Belled End Socket Welding Fittings, Stainless Steel and Copper Nickel).  Go to the MSS page at :

http://www.mss-hq.com/pricelist.htm

Best regards, John.
