Hi all,

I am trying to expand a folded balloon with Abaqus/Explicit. I use membrane elements to discretise it, and I am defining self contact for the balloon elements (general contact). The problem is that even if I have designed the folded crossing profile of the balloon with a mush bigger clearance that its thickness, I am getting the warning message WarnElemGContThickReduce. For instance, in the CAD software I offset the crossing profile central line to both directions and the wings of my balloon are not intersecting. Similarly, to test my clearance in Abaqus, when I meshed my instance with membrane elements, I created a mesh part, and then I offset the mesh along both directions and again, I saw that I had no surface penetrations. I also tried out different options in the general contact menu (e.g. surface properties), however, I still receiving this message which reduces my thickness assignment.

Does any of you have any idea how I could solve this problem? Thanks a lot in advance,

Regards,

Ger
