Constructing a nicad battery pack
Constructing a nicad battery pack
(OP)
I have two battery packs (9v & 12v) nicads and they are no longer available from the company (for a metal detector). I can purchase the 1.2 volt AA cells that they are comprised of but the original cells are not marked as to mah rate. I have the original charger which charges both battery packs at 150ma rate. My problem is that the cells (1.2 volt) come in 500mah rating all the way to 3000mah rating and i do not which rating to select. Any help would certainly be appreciated.
Thanks in advance

Alternately, you should know what your equipment is drawing, and can size the battery that way.

RE: Constructing a nicad battery pack
Agree that you might as well go for the largest cells you can afford without paying a heavy premium. A metal detector isn't a high drain application so you don't need to worry about the current handling capability of the intercell connections in the way that you would need to with, say, a battery drill.
RE: Constructing a nicad battery pack
Thanks for the input I think I will go with your advice and go with the
1500 mah rated cells.
Again thanks for your help!
