Advice on PMA design codes for materials?

Advice on PMA design codes for materials?

Advice on PMA design codes for materials?

(OP)
Hi All,
Im after a bit of advice if anyone can help - thanks!

I am writing a number of PMAs. In terms of the PED, a design criteria needs to be specified (eg. ASME BPVC Section II Part D). If the material I am using is not covered in this, how do I specify the design criteria? I am using a number of ASTM and BS standards (BS standards that are not harmonised so require a PMA) that this applies to.

RE: Advice on PMA design codes for materials?

Just ran into a question about PMA's this morning and the PED, must be the day for it. Are you the Pressure Vessel Mfr, or a material supplier? If you are the material supplier, it isn't your responsibility to request PMA's. If you are the designer or Pressure Vessel Manufacturer it falls on you and will be based on the appropriate construction code, ASME VIII for example which will reference you to Section II Part D for some of the information. I'm on the material manufacturer end of things. Look up PE-03-28-rev 5 21 November 2006, it should give you some guidance as will a general search for PMA's and the PED. Good luck, and be prepared to have your head start spinning while figuring it all out.

Thanks jwhit,

My had is spinning already! About 30 PMA`s was signed by NoBo. But few of then came back with the comment "not include in ASME II part D." Which is true but I explained on the PMA those materials are in the same group (as per ASME B 16.34) with the others which include in the ASME II part D we use the calc. as per Mandatory Appendix 1 (Table 1-100).
Yield and Tensile stress data are from the Material standards.

Not acceptable. :(

Si, I have no idea what can be the Design criteria.

Thanks again
