Internal Design Procedure

Internal Design Procedure

Internal Design Procedure

(OP)
Good day Mates,

I am requested to prepare a Design Procedure. It would be deeply appreciated if someone gave me a hand. My main questions are:
- Where to refer?
- What are the main criteria’s that should be taken into account?

Many thanks in advance.
Ulvi.

RE: Internal Design Procedure

Question that was asked thousands of times on this forum:”ISO or ASME”?
Please provide some background information: what set of standards is common in your location / country? Is inch or metric system used?
If possible, what industry are you in, are there special areas of interest: sheet metal, plastic molds, etc., etc.

We normally use metric system. We are dealing with design of steel structure - lifting devices/frames, vessel modification and dozens of another areas. From the other hand designs has being done as per DNV , BS , EN and etc. standards

I am looking for a kind of design procedure that generally reflects steps throughout drafting and calculating. This is intended to create internal design management system.

RE: Internal Design Procedure

Design procedure documents are typically considered company intellectual property and vary a lot from company to company. I doubt you will get anyone willing to give you this type of document.
That said, I believe having this documentation is a requirement of one of the ISO 9000 series quality cert's. If this is not related to ISO9000, check out their requirements anyway for lots of good information on what they think is required for good quality.
But more to the point, how do you do it now? Just document the steps of the design process you are actually doing. Also there are a lot of expert consultants out there who will to sell you this type of document, both good and bad.
