Abrasion resistance weld for 2.25Cr-1Mo Valve Bonnet

Abrasion resistance weld for 2.25Cr-1Mo Valve Bonnet

Abrasion resistance weld for 2.25Cr-1Mo Valve Bonnet

(OP)
Hi there,

I've got steam letdown valve ofwhich the bonnet is made of 2.25Cr -1Mo.
The internal of the bonnet has scouring marks due to the piston ring rubbing against the inside of the bonnet.
Will Ni Cr 3 (Inco 82) weld rod be a suitable material to be used for the repair (to resist further abrasion)?
How do I confirm this?

Thanks.

RE: Abrasion resistance weld for 2.25Cr-1Mo Valve Bonnet

Probably not. There are a number of hard surfacing materials and application methods that you could use to effect the repair.

If the piston ring is of harder material in comparison to the valve bonnet, using Inconel will not work. You should consider the following; weld repair the region on the bonnet using Inconel followed by a layer of Stellite 21 hardfacing over the Inconel. The only word of caution is that the piston ring may begin to wear against the Stellite 21 hardfacing.
