Welding Procedure Qualification

Welding Procedure Qualification

Welding Procedure Qualification

(OP)
For the qualification of a welding procedure to weld X65 to X65 (which can be used to weld X65 to (X65 and below)), do you need to perform a qualification test (recording of the essential variables and destructive testing) on every scenario you plan on using?

e.g. X65-Grade B, X65-X42, X65-X52, X65-X60, X65-X65

We currently have separate WPS for X65-X42 and X65-X60; however, the time lapse is 5 and 3, respectively and the range of max speed is 10 root 18 hotpass and 8-12 root 8-10 hot pass, respectively. If we need individual qualification tests, how can we utilize the info we already have given that some of the ess var are slightly different? Or do we have to completely redo them?

If we need to perform individual qualification tests for each scenario in order to create the one procedure (X65-X65) we want to use the results of these current procedures if possible.

Thanks!

RE: Welding Procedure Qualification

As per API 1104 Clause 5.4.2.2, any change in the groupings specified is an essential variable. You have already qualified a c-b, and c-a grouping, so you would need to qualify the remaining c-c, or X65 to X65.
