P&ID As-Builts and Drafting the redlined

(OP)
I started my company about a month ago and I am now offered some great clients to bid on. I figure rates for an engineer to walk down a P&ID and redline it to reflect whats actually there and then draft. $90 to $125hr for walking and redlining am I correct or is this to low or high? Drafting the P&IDs I figured around $50 to $65 an hr. I have to turn this bid in by end of day Friday. Any help is appreciated.

RE: P&ID As-Builts and Drafting the redlined

I'd think you're not too far out. The upper range may be high, depending on your location. I'd tend to do that with lesser experienced persons, as all that is required is basically a take photos and copy operation.

Independent events are seldomly independent.

RE: P&ID As-Builts and Drafting the redlined

How are you picking up travel costs, hotel costs, per diem for meals and laundry and telephone/ cell phones/rental cars. gas, airport parking, travel to/from the airport to the engineer's house, overtime while at the site, and technical expenses at the site (admin, office expenses, cameras, [plotting, paper, pens, the engineer's PC and on-line hookups, software, etc? 8 hour days? 10 hour? 12 hour days? Each will give you trade offs between a faster time to finish xyz many hours of photographs and sketches and walk-downs, and less overtime pay, and less per diem.

Now, include also the at-office time to make the final reports and finished products.

All of those need to either go in to a specific "extra cost" for the work you are bidding, or be paid out of the cost you are quoting to the customer, but paid and so are not available to either pay the person nor pay your bottom line?

HINT: Do NOT only take photographs before leaving the site, but take video "swings" of every spot from different angles on the ground. You'll find the videos are often more clear than single photo's.

Congratulations by the way.
